SPECIAL 5 IN. DIAPHRAGM
Special 5 inche diameter diaphragm chuck with morse taper number three female bore for locators. Chuck has built in pneumatic hammer to expel morse taper locators. The diaphragm will center the work piece and pull it into a hard stop. I said I would quote the mounting stops two ways, but there really is no other option but to use the MT-3. If I were to press a solid carbide pin directly into the chuck, we would have no adjust ability for height or concentricity. The MT-3 type stops are hardened and ground to 60/63 RC. These stops are ground between centers on a Tschudin grinder to guarantee they will run dead. A brazed solid carbide post to locate the 60 deg. Internal angle of nozzle. To remove the stops, an internal pneumatic hammer is actuated to pop them out (as shown in print).

MODEL 1025 AIR CHUCK
This is a Model 1025 Air Chucks used to grip on the pitch diameter of a large ring gear. A pin cage with integral axial locator is mounted to the chuck face as a subassembly. When accomplished, the jaws push the pins inward to grip the gear’s pitch diameter.

MODEL 700 -7in. dia. 3-jaw
This is a Northfield model 700 (7in. dia. 3-jaw) air chuck with special jaws that grip a short diameter of the automotive “hub” shown to drill and chamfer the 5 holes. A special stop mounted to the chuck face has “air detect” holes for part seating confirmation. The stop is contoured and relieved to allow a chamfering tool to break the edge on the banking surface of the work piece.

SPECIAL MODEL XP-450
Special Northfield model xp-450 (.0001” T.I.R.) vise chuck. This package included custom top jaws, a hardened and ground axial locator/ part stop, and a custom adapter plate to mount the above chuck to a Tsudakoma rotary table.

SPECIAL MODEL 6100
Special Northfield model 6100 (.0005 T.I.R.) 6.42 Dia., 3-jaw air chuck with 1 in. jaw stroke (.500” per jaw). This chuck was designed with special jaws to grip customers sprocket. The 6100 special jaw blanks different from the Northfield standard 6 inch series. The adapter plate will also be different than a standard Northfield 6 inch chuck. The air tube, rotary union, operating valve and regulator are the same as all other Northfield chucks.

MODEL 650 SPECIAL PULL-DOWN JAWS
This is a Model 650 Air chuck with special pull-down jaws and axial locator. The ID-Gripping jaws have a wire-cut slot that allow them to flex. When the jaws are actuated and come in contact with the part’s ID, they start to flex. As this continues, they pull the part down and onto the axial locator which acts as a dead stop.

Northfield MODEL DPH-600W
This is a Northfield model DPH-600W (6in. dia. 6-jaw) diaphragm chuck with special jaws to grip and automotive “hub” for drilling. The jaws grip the part and “pull” it onto the large stop. Slots in the stop allow a chamfering tool to pass through the hole and chamfer the underside. (3) “air detect” holes in the stop face are used for part seating conformation.

SPECIAL COLLET CHUCK
This is a 3in. diameter hydraulically actuated internal grip collet chuck that mount on a tilting table to drill an angled hole. A fixed stop pad picks up the inner face of this automotive work piece while the chuck expands and pulls back to grip the part. Chuck repeats to 1/10,000 T.I.R. and have a low profile to fit (8) chucks on one table.
REDUCED WT. MODEL 1000
This is a standard Northfield model 1000 (10in. dia. 3-jaw) air chuck modified to reduce extra weight. The chuck normally weighs about 60lbs. We reduce the weight by 15 lbs by milling the face as shown.

AUTO RUBBER COUPLING
This is a special chuck to grip automotive “rubber coupling” drive shaft joints. The small collet in the center grips a 14mm I.D. to an accuracy of less than 1/10,000 in. T.I.R. the (3) extended fingers pass thru (3) bolt holes, and expand and “Face Clamp” only. These fingers simulate “Bolting” the flange in place the way it is used in the vehicles. Drive shafts are balance from 3,500 rpm to over 6,000 rpm.

5-JAW/ 5 in. DIAPHRAGM (DPH-500-5) CHUCK
This is a unique 5-jaw/ 5 in. diaphragm (dph-500-5) chuck. It has serrated jaws to enhance the grip force and an axial locator with integral/ air-detect function to ensure positive loading of the customer’s part. The axial locator also has a tertiary datum locator to allow the part to be twisted into position upon loading.

5C COLLET CHUCK
Our new 5C collet chuck is interchangeable with our standard 4 inch chucks.
• Air Actuated
• Uses Northfields standard air feed tubes (wet or dry)
• Same bolt pattern as our standard 4 inch models
• All componenets hardened and ground to 58/63 R.C.
• All diameters ground within 1/10,000 T.I.R.
• Uses standard 5C collets
• Also accepts 5C expanding collets
• Can run at speeds in excess of 8,000 rpm

MODEL 450WHF CHUCK
This chuck uses a special 4-port air tube (and special piston) to allow for open / close / autolube / air-detect functions.
The top plate (with pin) is a radial banking surface (side of pin only) which picks up the side of the customer’s part
(not shown) when it is loaded (and twisted into position) into the chuck.
The three small pads with tiny holes in the very center of the chuck are used to rest the part against (tops of pads) while
the holes are used for the air-detect function (positive indication that the part is indeed loaded into the chuck).

SPECIAL 6JAW CHUCK
This is a special 6in. diameter 6-jaw chuck with ½” of jaw stroke on diameter and a ½” counter bore in the center.
The chuck above has sub-jaws and inserts and a special air ejector that is spring return. This chuck was designed for
Tiffany Co. You are correct, the Jewelry store. This chuck is used to make Gold and Platinum rings that are bar
fed from the main spindle and finished in the sub-spindle on this Northfield chuck. The chuck is rated for 4,000rpm
with low profile jaws.

MODEL 425 1/4 JAW
This is a standard model 425 (.0001 T.I.R) with ¼” jaw stroke to open enough to clear the sprocket and grip on the Qualified diameter (the part is shown up backwards in the photo). This is a special “Locking Nut” for M-16 rifles.
The I.D. gets hard turned.

MODEL 775W
This is a standard Northfield model 775W (.0001 T.I.R.) 7in. dia., 2-jaw chuck with ¼” jaw stroke and coolant
through. This chuck is mounted to a rotary table to drill and mill the above part. The coolant passage is used for
air detect in BOTH the jaws and stop. We milled the side of the chuck away to allow more tool clearance.
The part is the end of an over-head cam shaft for Ford.
SPECIAL 6" DIAMETER CHUCK
This is a special 6in. diameter chuck with 1in. of jaws stroke on diameter. The jaws must open far enough to clear a shoulder before gripping the qualified diameter. The repeatability is approximately .0005 T.I.R. (not as close as our standard chucks) because it uses a “Lever” mechanism instead of our “Center Wedge”. The rpm is also limited depending on the weight of the top jaws.
